All gold                                                                                        Aureola

Hakonechloa macra is the Japanese forest grass, or Hakone grass. It is a warm season, slow spreader that thrives in cool, moist, shaded areas of the garden.  It does well planted under shrubs and trees, amongst ferns and hostas.  Rather than just spreading, it forms a loose mound with a cascading form.  Both varieties are also good in containers, with sufficient moisture, and are also used as groundcover.

Varieties:

Hakonechloa macra 'All gold'     bright yellow leaves, 18" tall, spreading to 3' wide     zone 6, or a sheltered 5
