Imperata cylindrica, Japanese blood grass, is such a variable species, depending on its habitat.  It has become an invasive noxious  weed in the U.S. southeast.  Not so here in our dry climate!  It is a warm season running grass, kept in check by limiting its  moisture.


Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron'     leaves green suffused with red, especially at the tips, with red increasing as the season progresses, 1' tall     zone 5     full sun, in moist fertile soil     does very well in containers
