Scirocco 

Stipa is also called needle grass, spear grass, and feather grass.   They are clump forming, cool season grasses.  They have long awns, which is the source of their common names.  The foliage usually forms a mound, with the flower stalks being upright.  They prefer full sun, and low humidity, with well drained soil.  They do well in containers.

Varieties:

Stipa arundinacea 'Pheasant Tails'  (wind grass)     foliage starts green, changing to orange, 2' tall     no flowers     zone 7, grow as an annual     wonderful container plant

Stipa arun. 'Scirocco'     foliage is a rare pink colour, developing to copper/pink, 1' tall     no flowers     zone 7, grow as an annual     wonderful container plant

Stipa tenuissima 'Angel Hair'     graceful light green foliage, 2' tall     flowers ivory white with long awns, 3' tall     zone 6     makes a wonderful container plant, the flowers very responsive to breezes    very whispy and angelic
